Welcome to Barclays Technical Apprenticeship Programme

Trying to choose between continuing your studies and starting a career? On our Apprenticeship Scheme you don’t have to. We understand that you may not want to miss out on your formal education and that’s why we’re giving you the chance to ‘earn while you learn’. From day one you’ll be able to put your newfound skills into practice, which in turn will equip you for a long and successful career among our expert teams.

About the scheme

We’re committed to using the latest technology, from mobile banking to contactless payment, because it all helps make our customers lives much easier. In fact, without it, we wouldn’t be in business. So, it makes business sense to have the best technical professionals around – and with our excellent on the job training, you’ll soon count yourself amongst their number.

We’re looking to recruit motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our Apprenticeship Scheme. Our two-year programme will provide you with opportunities to develop your skills and the knowledge you need to progress your career within one of our technology teams.

During your first year you’ll spend time gaining a relevant NVQ qualification, pass this successfully and we’ll give you a pay rise and a promotion. You’ll then go on to study for further qualifications in your second year. Alongside this, you’ll have your own personal development plan to ensure you’re ready for another promotion once the programme is over. Throughout the two-year scheme you’ll get lots of support and encouragement from technical and business buddies, former apprentices, your line manager and of course, the team around you.

However, don’t take our word for it; this is what some of our current apprentices have to say about the scheme:

“This scheme gives you a massive start to your career with all the support you could ever need”
Stephen Tandy, Apprentice Infrastructure Technician, Unix Engineering

“From the first day of starting here with Barclays I knew I had made a brilliant decision. This apprenticeship has given me a great opportunity to begin and pursue my career with one of the biggest banks in the world”
Jake Cummins, Apprentice Infrastructure Technician, Data Warehousing Services

What we look for

Our Apprenticeship Scheme is all about developing talent so we are not looking for individuals with lots of experience. We are looking for people who are motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated to achieving high results. You need good communication skills, commitment to a two year learning programme. You must also have the ability to travel to either Radbroke Hall, near Knutsford in Cheshire or to Canary Wharf in London.

You should have a minimum of 2 GCSE’s, grades A – C, in Maths and English (or equivalent). Please note that if you have a degree level qualification you will not be eligible to apply for this scheme.

How do I apply?

Recruitment for our 2013 programme has now closed and will re-open in Spring 2014.
