CORE Development Head, Singapore
I’ve had a variety of roles since joining Barclays three years ago. The first involved leading business analysis and interacting with a huge range of stakeholders such as business users, product managers and technical leads. After that I ran a team of 8 business analysts both in retail and commercial domains, and managed resource planning and the budget for the entire team.
Currently I’m the CORE Development Head, which means I’m in charge of developing a new core banking platform using Spain as a base. The scope of the project is to enhance the current application to be non-Spain-specific, add key features that will enable the business to work more efficiently and change the infrastructure to make it more robust and shareable across countries.
We’re about to start development so at the moment I’m identifying, engaging and negotiating with vendors to do the analysis, documentation and then actual development. I’m also reviewing the scope and release plan for next year, defining the sets of key deliverables and working on the vendor interaction model.
I have been working mostly on start-up projects. As such, there are a lot of challenges such as acquiring knowledge when there’s less documentation. I also have to be able to change and adapt the approach to new situations fast, and influencing skills are important as we have many stakeholders that need to be consulted with.
It’s all very enjoyable. As for the future, I can see myself as a product manager overseeing product evolution.
